FAQs

When should I applaud during a classical concert?

Traditionally, applause is held until the end of a piece of music. Please hold your applause until the conclusion of all movements of a piece – after that, feel free to stand up and cheer!

Can I take photographs during the concert?

Photographing or taping MSO concerts is strictly prohibited. No recording devices or cameras are permitted without special authorization from the MSO.

Can I bring my child to an evening concert?

Children ages six and up are welcome to attend our First Tennessee Masterworks, Bank of America Pops, Paul & Linnea Bert Chamber, Adams Charitable Foundation Family series concerts, Young People’s Concerts and our special events. Children of all ages are encouraged to attend the Adams Charitable Foundation Family series concerts and Young People’s Concerts.  All children must have a ticket for admission.

I'll be attending my first MSO concert. What should I wear?

There is no formal dress code for attending MSO concerts. Concertgoers usually dress in suits, vests, sweaters, skirts, khakis, slacks, everything! We generally recommend “business casual.” Usually, our New Year’s Eve at the Symphony concert is the one performance some may opt to don their tuxedos or evening gowns.

Can I exchange my ticket for another ticket to a different concert?

Only subscribers have the benefit of exchanging their season tickets. There is no exchange fee, however all subscription ticket exchanges are subject to availability. Ticket exchanges must be made up to three days before the date of the performance. Simply call the Box Office at (901) 537-2525 with your request.

If I arrive late to a concert, will I be seated immediately?

If you arrive late, an usher will seat you at his or her discretion, generally at an appropriate break in music.

I've misplaced my tickets for tomorrow's concert. What should I do?

Please call the Box Office at (901) 537-2525, and we will issue a ticket replacement voucher.

Can I buy a gift certificate to be used for an upcoming event?

Gift certificates to the Memphis Symphony Orchestra (subject to availability) may be purchased in any denomination. Please call the Box Office at (901) 537-2525 for details.

Can I donate my unused ticket(s)?

If you are unable to attend a performance at the last minute, your unused tickets may be donated to the Memphis Symphony Orchestra as a tax-deductible contribution. Ticket donations will be accepted by phone and fax up to three days prior to the concert. You must provide the Box Office with your name, address, phone, concert date and seat location. Night of concert, ticket donations will be accepted in person at the Box Office before the performance.

Can I leave my cell phone on during a concert?

Cellular phones, pagers and alarm watches should be turned off while in the hall. Patrons should ask for the House Manager to report an emergency during a concert, or to make special arrangements to receive emergency phone calls during a concert.
