Foundation and Government Support

The Memphis Symphony Orchestra is fortunate to receive grants from many private, public and corporate foundations.  Unlike sponsorships and donations designed to fund events and operations, grants typically support the special projects that allow the Symphony to reach and serve the local community.  Current grant-funded projects include an after-school program for at-risk youth; concerts for young people at the Cannon Center; the search and recruitment of a Principal Pops Conductor; and renovation of the Symphony's Music Library.  Without grants, the Symphony would not have the resources for these enriching projects and activities.

In addition to foundation support, the Memphis Symphony also seeks funds from government agencies.  Government support is usually awarded as grants, but can also take the form of allocations for general operations.  Sources of government support for the Symphony include the Tennessee Arts Commission, the Southern Arts Federation and the National Endowment for the Arts.
