Elementary School
At-Risk Youth
After-school mentoring and instruction for Memphis City School students from members of the MSO. The MSO musicians provide a professional performance, group lessons, master classes and a final student performance through this program for budding instrumentalists.
Kinderconcerts
Introduce your youngest students to the world of music with a Kinderconcert. These wonderful presentations bring a string duo to your school to perform, demonstrate string instruments, play music games and introduce basic musical concepts to grades K-2 students.
Chamber Education Concerts
An MSO Chamber Ensemble will visit your school to perform selected pieces, demonstrate orchestral instruments and teach musical concepts. Ensembles include: string quartet, woodwind quartet, woodwind quintet or brass quintet. Performances and demonstrations are designed for grades 3 and up and can be customized to match student needs. In the familiar environment of their own school, students respond especially well to the up-close presentation of classical repertoire by professional musicians.
Middle and High School
Artists-in-Residence
This program provides top-rate mentoring and instruction for students in Memphis City schools. Students learn from MSO musicians through performances, master classes, “side-by-side” rehearsals, and group lessons. Positive role models to music students in the inner-city and additional teacher support to the public schools. The program's mission is to provide an overall improved self-image of students through infusing Memphis Symphony Orchestra players into instrumental and orchestral programs throughout the greater Memphis area.
For All Ages

Age-appropriate concerts for elementary through high school are enhanced by an integrated classroom curriculum. Provided by the Memphis City Schools, it is a collaboration through the pilot project Music, Math, Science and Technology. Students benefit from pre-concert and post-concert MSO musician visits which prepare them for the concert, as well as free recordings for student preparation.
MSO Ensemble Concerts
MSO String Quartet, Woodwind Quartet or Brass Quintet will give a performance at your school, geared toward any age level. The musicians will perform and provide insights about music, their instruments and take questions from the audience in this intimate setting.
