K-12 Education

 

Young People’s Concerts

A full orchestra concert featuring repertoire that educates, engages and entertains presented annually at the Cannon Center for students in grades 3–6 from Shelby County Schools and other independent schools. The program is designed to fit within an integrated thematic curriculum, exploring core subjects through the lens of music, and a teacher’s guide is written in collaboration with teachers from Shelby County Schools.

Wednesday, January 25th - 10:30 AM & 12:00 PM
Thursday, January 26th - 10:30 AM & 12:00 PM
Friday, January 27th - 10:30 AM & 12:00 PM

Cost: $5.00 per student. Every 10 students, one chaperone.

Kinderconcerts

Creative, interactive performances by MSO ensembles introduce orchestral instruments and simple musical concepts to pre-K – 2nd grade students.

MSO Education Ensembles

MSO brass, string, and woodwind ensembles conduct in-school performances that familiarize students with classical repertoire and help to develop active listening skills.

CAPA Virtuosi

MSO musicians provide weekly music coaching throughout the school year for instrumental music students at Colonial Middle School and Overton High School.

 

Music Mentoring at the Soulsville Charter School

Music Mentoring at The Soulsville Charter School was conceived in June 2007. Drawing on the rich legacy of Stax Records, The Soulsville Charter School uses music as a vibrant stage for meeting and exceeding education standards. MSO musicians inspire, coach, and mentor high school students at Soulsville Charter School on a weekly basis throughout the school year.

Memphis Symphony's Artists-in-Residence & the University of Memphis Artist Diploma in Violin

The Memphis Symphony Orchestra offers a two-year Artist-in-Residence program in partnership with the University of Memphis. Students enrolled in the program work toward the Artist Diploma in Violin and receive a full-tuition waiver and a $6,000-stipend.

The Artist Diploma is a post-baccalaureate program, designed for those ready to embark on performing careers but desiring to delve further into mastering the artistry and craft of the violin within a supportive university environment. It offers opportunities to perform regularly with the Memphis Symphony Orchestra while studying with violin faculty at the University of Memphis.
