LFEC® is a day-long workshop offered to the corporate community to provide experiential leadership development to management teams. The curriculum pulls back the curtain on the Memphis Symphony Orchestra to reveal the effective teamwork, successful leadership and creative problem solving that lead to stellar performances. Through a series of hands-on activities held at the Cannon Center, participants are:
- Stimulated by the high level of personal commitment exhibited by each musician and its impact on a successful final product
- Challenged to evaluate their individual communication style against the efficient, concise communication models presented by the orchestra
- Inspired by a spirit of mutual respect for individual talents and differences between diverse musicians, whose coordinated efforts realize a unified goal.
While the musicians on stage might not seem to have much in common with business professionals, they share the same needs for clear, timely communication, inspiration, workplace respect, and motivation towards a specific mission. LFEC® takes apart the components of a working team, explores them from multiple perspectives, and then pulls them all together into a finished product – the performance of a great piece of music. The workshop gives participants the opportunity to observe, participate, reflect on, and apply the principles observed in a professional work environment.
Note: While currently LFEC® is available only to the corporate community, the curriculum is being adapted for youth leadership development.
