In 2010 Mei-Ann’s Circle of Friends was founded as a women’s philanthropic initiative to honor the former Memphis Symphony Orchestra’s Music Director, Mei-Ann Chen. Through the years, the Circle has welcomed over 200 diverse members recognized as community investors who share a deep sense of social consciousness and a strong desire to serve together as an instrument of inclusion through the performing arts. Most importantly, the membership embraced a shared commitment to embed intentional inclusion as a core value of the Memphis Symphony Orchestra through its creation of THE MUSICIAN FELLOWSHIP PROGRAM.
With an understanding that this mission – bringing broad-based inclusivity into the performing arts – will take years to develop, their vision has created an opportunity to place the Memphis Symphony Orchestra in a leadership position to strengthen the vibrancy of our cultural center and mirror the community in which we live and love.
During its formative years, The Circle was shepherded by Ellen Robinson Rolfes who was the driving force behind its inception, mission, and success. In 2018 the MSO dedicated the initiative in her honor.
Please join to be recognized for your belief in the importance of intentional inclusion in the performing arts.
