Arts Advocacy

At the Memphis Symphony Orchestra,  we are dedicated to communicating the value of the arts to a wide range of diverse stakeholders.  We hold a few initiavies near and dear to our hearts but also ensure that we are  involved with several arts advocacy initiatives at the municipal, state, and national levels. Below, you'll find a few of our favorite initiatives through the Tennessee Arts Commission.

TENNESSEE ARTS COMMISSION

The Tennessee Arts Commission invests in more than 700 nonprofit organizations across the state benefiting communities through quality of life, economic development, tourism and providing a more balanced education for our children.

TENNESSEE ARTS COMMISSION SPECIALTY LICENSE PLATES

The State of Tennessee offers more than 100 types of  license plates to residents registering a private motor vehicle.  Tennessee Arts Commission License plates are available at your county clerk's office.  For more information on how to introduce a new specialty plate click here or to view proposed plates that are currently under construction, please click here.

* Please Note:  County clerks charge an additional $1 fee for the issuance of Tennessee's specialty plates.  Not all plates are available at all locations. Please check with your County Clerks office for availability.

Information on Tennessee Arts Commission License Plates

All plates in this category:

  • are available to all Tennessee residents.
  • require an annual fee of $61.50;  $35 of that fee is allocated in part to the Tennessee Arts Commission.
  • can be personalized between three and five characters.

ARTS ACCESS

The Arts Access program is committed to providing access to the arts to Tennessee’s underserved and underrepresented constituents, including people of color (Black/African American, Hispanic/Latino, Asian, American Indian/Alaskan Native, Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander, and other groups that constitute less than the state’s current majority; people with disabilities, people age 65 years and older, and active duty/veterans and their families.
