Memphis Composers Institute Concert
The Memphis Composers Institute invites composers in the early stages of their orchestral composing careers to submit one orchestral work for a chance to be performed by the Memphis Symphony. This three-day event features rehearsals, panel discussions, and culminates with a performance of three orchestral works by emerging composers, alongside the premiere of Artistic Coordinator D. J. Sparr’s Extended Play (for viola and orchestra), performed by Kimberly Sparr with the Memphis Symphony, conducted by Kyle Dickson, on February 9, 2025.We are excited to announce the winners of this year’s Memphis Composers Institute:
Evan Erickson – Oobleck
Sina Karachiani – Stranger of Kin
Soomin Kim – star / ghost / mouth / sea
Join us as we celebrate these talented composers and their innovative works at the Memphis Symphony Orchestra concert.
