Northside Square:
A New Home for MSO’s Community Work
What’s happening?
The Memphis Symphony Orchestra has been invited to join the historic Northside Square redevelopment, with plans to move our administrative offices there when construction is complete.
What is Northside Square?
Northside Square is transforming the former Northside High School into a vibrant community hub—bringing together health services, workforce development, literacy advocacy, technical skills training, athletics, and performing & visual arts under one roof. Think of it as a “mini-Crosstown,” purpose-built to serve neighbors of all ages.
Why MSO is moving?
This move strengthens what we already do best: enrich lives through exceptional music and dynamic programs that meet people where they are. Being inside a community hub lets us:
Collaborate more easily with schools, libraries, and local partners.
Deepen music-literacy and youth pathways work—helping students discover, learn, and lead through music.
Host community-facing rehearsals, workshops, and small events in spaces designed for access and inclusion.
What changes for concerts?
Nothing. Your concert experience stays the same. We’ll continue performing at our traditional venues (like the Cannon Center and Scheidt Family Performing Arts Center) and across the greater Memphis community.
Tickets & Box Office
You’ll still be able to purchase tickets online as usual, and we will maintain a convenient, accessible Box Office in East Memphis.
How Northside Square benefits the community
A welcoming arts anchor. As a lead arts resident, MSO will collaborate with fellow nonprofits and neighborhood partners to make the arts more present in daily community life.
Deeper education impact. Our education and community programs span early-childhood story-and-music sessions, side-by-side coaching for students, and opportunities that help young musicians see a future in the field. (We’ll share updated school and library engagement numbers here each season.)
More doorways into orchestral music. From open rehearsals and micro-performances to broadcasts with public media partners, our goal is simple: more ways for more Memphians to experience the power of live music—free or low-barrier whenever possible.
Timeline
Now–Fall 2025: Construction and tenant coordination at Northside Square.
Summer 2026: Targeted completion; MSO administrative offices begin transition to Northside Square.
Ongoing: Concerts continue at our usual venues; community & education programs run year-round.
FAQ
Will my season tickets or seats change?
No. Performance venues and seating remain the same.
Where will concerts be held?
At our traditional venues—including the Cannon Center and Scheidt Family Performing Arts Center—and other locations around the Mid-South.
Why put MSO offices inside a community hub?
It makes collaboration easier and access broader, so more Memphians encounter music in everyday spaces (schools, libraries, neighborhood partners), not just in concert halls.
Can I still buy tickets the same way?
Yes. Online as usual; plus we’ll keep a convenient East Memphis Box Office for in-person help.
