The Memphis Composers Institute, a partnership between The Memphis Symphony Orchestra, the Rudi E. Scheidt School of Music of the University of Memphis, and The Walden School, announces the results of its call for orchestra scores. Selected composers and works include Dede Ondishko (Singing Strength), Fulya Kapucugil (Leaving the Nest), and Ethan Soledad (Cages of Jade); the concert will also feature the world premiere of Curtains of Light by Walden faculty member Caroline Mallonee.
The Memphis Composers Institute celebrates composers in the early stages of their orchestral composing careers by offering a chance to have a work performed by the Memphis Symphony. The selected composers will attend a two-day event, February 3-4, 2026, including rehearsals, panel discussions, and a performance of their works by the Memphis Symphony conducted by Kyle Dickson on February 4 at Harris Hall.
